WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING: MAR 15 – MAR 28

The Aviator

I’m a bad blogger… give me a minute, I’m a very bad blogger.

In the same week when Univarn returned to say an official goodbye to the internet (at least as a film blogger) a year after his latest post I’m starting to think more and more about what I’m trying or wanting to do with the internet and this blog. I’ve stopped writing for about three other web outlets that I was working with last year. I’m still unemployed six months after deciding to return to Jamaica to try and be back home with my family. I read Univarn’s goodbye and wonder what it is that fuels my need to write about film and eloquently (or not so much as I know I suck and being good takey) discuss my feelings about films.

I’m thinking about it guys.

However, regardless of that stuffs. Here’s my last couple weeks of film watching:

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (2013) – An okay film of adventure, but the first half hour is really hard to love.
ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (2013) – I like this movie a lot… I’m okay with this return to character
NEW YORK, NEW YORK (1977) – Wow those 3 hours hurt my brain
THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993) – Wow I didn’t enjoy that one either
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013) – Hmmmmm…. cocaine spinach guys!!!
LATE SPRING (1949) – But I wanna be happy now…
1:1 THIERRY HENRY (2011) – Uninteresting through and through
THE TALE OF ZATOICHI (1962) – old samurai action that ins’t Yojimbo, but still fun
47 RONIN (2013) – some of the action is pretty good; everything else is what you expect.

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Late Spring is such at treat, it was my first Ozu film in fact. I really glad I made a point to see the free screening of An Autumn Afternoon at TIFF last year. There is something magical about seeing Ozu on the big screen (caught a screening of Tokyo Story at the Lightbox back in April or so of last year as well).

As for you being a bad blogger, rubbish! There is nothing wrong with taking time to sort out your life as a person, movie lover, blogger, etc. I routinely ask myself "whether or not blogging/writing about film is something I still want to do?" "what am I really getting out of it?", etc. While we all have different answers to those questions, my only advice for you is to take as much time as you want/need to figure out stuff. Your loyal readers will still support you in whatever direction you ultimately go.

Having said that, I hope you still keep both podcast going in the meantime. Speaking of which, I listened to the MYLP episode with your dad last week (not sure how I missed it early) and absolutely loved it. He had a lot of good insight, especially in regards to how comedy has evolved.

Hey man… thanks for the reply. Ye I'm just in a down period… will be back up soon I feel…

I'm now 2 films in Ozu and wish to dive further, we'll see what I come up with in time.

Podcasts will remain on track… have one more of each currently in the can to release, you'll hear them soon. Thanks for listening and sticking with me mate. Hope to see you again in 2015 at TIFF if I'm lucky (or maybe you can make it to Jamaica sometime between now and then). I'm around.
