WEEKEND POLL: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF J.J. ABRAMS?

With the release of his third directorial effort Super 8, which I hope to see tonight, I want to know what you all think of him.

He’s a child of science fiction, after directing Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek and now Super 8. He’s produced numerous TV shows including: Alias, LOST and Felicity. He also helped bring the sleeper hit Cloverfield to existence by helping getting the film made and being the brainchild of the successful marketing campaign.

So what is your verdict on him?

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

I don't have an opinion on J.J. Abrams since I'm not familiar with his work.  I thought the third "Mission:  Impossible" movie was OK and from what I saw of his version of "Star Trek", I liked what I saw.  So, I can't really say anything.

He's a solid director; not so much a great storyteller. Third acts always fall apart for him, especially in Super 8. It was his best movie until those last 30 minutes.

He knows how to cast actors and shoot slickly to elevate so-so material. With a great script, he could make a great movie.

I do appreciate his presentation of films and that's what I think he hinges on so far. Otherwise his movies (MI3 and Star Trek) were really fun action movies, Super 8 was more him just showing us what he loved and not much more. Part of me wants him to just go back to action and being what I like to refer to as "Michael Bay v.2.0".
