TUMP [EP#150 – TO THE WONDER]

Wow. It’s episode 150. I can remember the early days where I was like “Hey guys, let’s do this thing” and 150 (plus the number of lost) episodes here we are still confronting each other about the amount of art we’re willing to put up with in a film as we sit down to discuss Terrence Malick’s latest, and least loved, film To The Wonder.

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Congrats on hitting episode 150, you are halfway to the big 300! How is that for motivation?

Is it wrong that the major thing that I still remember about this film form TIFF is Olga Kurylenko twirling in the field, twirling in the store, twirling at home, etc. I have read several rave reviews of To the
Wonder written by Malick loyalists. Frankly I just don’t get it. Part of me feels that there is just a section of film lovers who simply refuse to concede that Malick can make a weak film.

Sadly we are not those people who are afraid to admit that. Thanks for the motivation sir… I pray that 300 comes quicker than 150 did (3 yrs and 4 mths). I remember it more favourably from TIFF; but I also blame that on me stupidly making it my last film of the fest.
