TOP 12 FILMS WITH NUMBERS IN THE TITLE

This week if you head out to the cinema you might go and see D. J. Caruso‘s latest film, I Am Number Four. While I don’t think that movie will turn out well it made me think about other films that have titles with numbers in them. Here’re twelve awesome movies with numbers in the title:

12. Ocean’s Eleven (2001) (dir. Steven Soderbergh)

The movie is one of the best remakes that I’ve ever seen. The script is a great page by page line by line dialogue that always comes back to make you think and laugh all at the same time.

11. Twelve Monkeys (1995) (dir. Terry Gilliam)

What if you were taken into the past to find out when the apocalypse happened and how to avoid it from happening? The movie is filled with characters and great acting, throw in a dash of Terry Gilliam and you have a time travel film that people have and will be talking about for a very long time.

10. 8mm (1999) (dir. Joel Shumacher)

Tom Welles is a private investigator asked to look into the validity of a snuff film that’s been discovered. It’s one of the Nicolas Cage films that are actually good and for so many reasons. The movie sports some great performances from Joaquin Pheonix, James Gandolfini and Peter Stormare; as well as some great cinematography and a brilliant third act that you won’t see coming.

9. The Fifth Element (1997) (dir. Luc Besson)

It’s good vs. evil, Bruce vs. Gary, human vs. alien, and most of all, Mila Jovovich vs. Chris Tucker as to who can be the most annoying character in the film. It’s a great action space adventure with one of the baddest baddasses of all time, Korben Dallas.

8. 300 (2006) (dir. Zack Snyder)

It’s based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller that’s based on the famousĀ Battle of Thermopylae. This movie is where kick-ass action comes to take lessons. It’s non stop testosterone and a lot of amazing lines and great moments.

7. The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) (dir. Judd Apatow)

It’s one of the funniest movies and definite proof as to why Steve Carell remains a comedy talent. It’s the funniest sex comedy sinceĀ American Pie. This movie is laugh-out-loud from frame #1 to the end of the credits. You’re going to be finding more and more jokes with every watch because all the things you were laughing over the first time you’re now seeing.

6. One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) (dir. Clyde Geronimi & Hamilton Luske)

This is one of my favourite classic Disney animation films ever. It’s a movie that I don’t get to mention enough on the site but it’s something that anytime I catch on TV I have to watch (not that I catch it that often) and I can’t believe I don’t own a copy on DVD/Bluray yet at this point.

5. 28 Days Later… (2002) (dir. Danny Boyle)

Danny Boyle’s first real breakout film, or at least the first one that I saw, and even though I was lukewarm on it on first viewings I’ve come around completely. I love the look and the complete resurgence of zombie/infected films that this movie has inspired since then.

4. 25th Hour (2002) (dir. Spike Lee)

Spike Lee is a filmmaker that no matter how controversial he can get in the media I still love him. His kind of movies just draw me in and this is one of my favourites of his. I love so many moments, lines, scenes, everything about this movie. If you haven’t seen it yet you have to.

3. The Magnificent Seven (1960) (dir. John Sturges)/Seven Samurai (1954) (dir. Akira Kurosawa)

I’m sure a lot of Kurosawa fanboys out there are ready to attack me now, but I actually enjoyed both of these films as their own movie. Even though The Magnificent Seven pretty much the same as Seven Samurai. Both are very different and very similar all at the same time.

2. Se7en (1995) (dir. David Fincher)

If only Zodiac wasn’t so good this would be my all-time favourite film by David Fincher, one of my favourite directors working today. It’s a great cop thriller detective story about these two guys who’re partners for a week tracking down this serial killer who’s themed his kills after the seven deadly sins. It’s great, that is all.

1. 127 Hours (2010) (dir. Danny Boyle)

I’m sure the amount of times I’ve mentioned this movie in the last couple weeks this movie could possibly be nominated to go into my movie pantheon. It’s a great story of how someone finds the courage and will to live in an extreme situation. Franco gives a performance that I hope doesn’t mean it’s his peak but rather a way on up. If at this point you haven’t seen this movie yet you need to check it out.

What’s your favourite movie with a number in the title?

Andrew Robinson

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.
