Monster Inc (Blu-Ray)

Monsters Inc

If you’ve read my posts long enough you should know that I’m a Pixar fanatic and a couple months ago when I finally became a part of the HD world and got a BluRay player I was sad to find that a lot of my favourite Pixar movies hadn’t yet been released on BluRay.  Finally Pete Doctor’s first feature film is being rereleased on the new format and I want it.  The movie features some amazing voice acting from people like Steve Buscemi, Billy Crystal and John Goodman where monsters that come out of the closet happen to be just as afraid of us as they are of us.  How can you not want to watch it?

Up

Up - Carl & Ellie_tiny

Here is another Pixar movie, the latest hit from the studio and from Pete Doctor (also did Monsters Inc).  I actually forgot to review this movie when I got to watch it twice in the theatre (once in 2D and again in 3D) and loved it.  They’re releasing a 4-Disc version (which is really 2-Discs since 1 disc is a DVD, another a Digital Copy and the other two are BluRays with feature film and special features) which I think right now is a must have and the best stocking stuffer you can give to a movie geek who you happen to like.

Heat (Blu-Ray)

Heat - Pacino & DeNiro.

Here is arguable one of the best heist movie of the last 20 years with Pacino going up against the acting juggernaut that is Robert DeNiro, and the film is being rereleased on the new BluRay format.  I actually bought a barebones DVD version of this movie earlier this year and this now makes me sad because I’m totally willing to throw that out the window to make way for this new transfer of the movie on HiDef video/sound.  The film is something that everyone needs to see so check it out.

Watchmen [Ultimate Cut]

watchmen-night-owl-silk-spectre

The comic book film of this year is getting it’s third cut released.  We’ve already seen the Theatrical Cut and the Director’s Cut and now we’re getting the “Ultimate Cut” which runs an astounding 251 mins long.  It is apparently the Director’s Cut with Tales of the Black Freighter embedded in the film.  I have yet to see the Director’s Cut but currently I’m considering how I want all versions of this film and if you’re a huge fan of the original graphic novel I doubt you’ll be disappointed by this cut of the film.  If you’re send your hate mail to Mr. Snyder.

The Ugly Truth

the-ugly-truth-heigl-butler

Here is the raunchy romcom of the year that failed to impress me really.  However, I do see a lot of people who missed it in theatres catching this as a rental without a problem.  There is something for most.  Katheryn Heigl for the guys, Gerard Butler for the women and all the sex humour you would want to be offended by and a horribly sewed together ending that makes you know that the first hour and fifty minutes really meant nothing to us.

Logan’s Run (Blu-Ray)

Logans Run

Here is a fan favourite sci-fi film that makes the rental because I’ve heard great things about it but have not seen it myself yet.  I actually intend to catch up with this one really soon now that it’s been restored for fans to enjoy in HiDef.  I don’t know anything about the story except what IMDb has for it’s plot says “An idyllic sci-fi future has one major drawback: life must end at 30” and that interests me for some reason.

Ink

Ink

Here’s a small budget science-ficton/fantasy film that I’ve been hearing a lot about from a friend of the site, Dave from ScreenGeeks.com, and I can’t wait to see.  IMBd’s plot synopsis says “As the light fades and the city goes to sleep, two forces emerge. They are invisible except for the power they exert over us in our sleep, battling for our souls through dreams. One force delivers hope and strength through good dreams; the other infuses the subconscious with desperation through nightmares.” and like Logan’s Run I’m intrigued.  The film is releagated to a rental due to the fact that I haven’t seen it yet and am only going off of twitter buzz and whatnot rather than my own honest opinion.

Ballast

Ballast

Another interesting independent film by Lance Hammer.  The plot synopsis reads: “A single mother and her embattled son struggle to subsist in a small Mississippi Delta township. An act of violence thrusts them into the world of an emotionally devastated highway store owner, awakening the fury of a bitter and longstanding conflict.” I’ve been wanting to see this one since I started to hear some good buzz for it coming out of this year’s Sundance Film Fest.  Will decide whether it’s worth a buy after I’ve actually seen it.

Near Dark (Blu-Ray)

Near Dark - Bill Paxton

Here is a cult favourite vampire movie out of the 80s directed by Katheryn Bigelow.  For all the Twilight fans out there here is your movie.  You like lame vampire movies here, enjoy it it glorious HiDef and leave me alone.  I didn’t like this movie and I really have no clue why people do like it.  Yes Bill Paxton has a couple good scenes but otherwise I find it completely a waste of time and there are better movies out there to rerelease in HIDef for me to enjoy.

Spread

Spread

Here Ashton Kutcher plays what seems to be the same exact role Jude Law did in Alfie and I didn’t like that either.  I’m not a fan of Mr. Kutcher so why do I need to see him get every hot lady in LA for a whole of 90 minutes.  The movie looks completely uninteresting and I want to just skip it completely.

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Yeah in my post I took some time out to rip Spread about as much as I could. There's no way I'm going to watch it. I've still yet to see Near Dark, but I do plan too despite y'all absolute reaming it during your cast.

If you're going to watch Logan's Run I recommend doing so with a grain of salt :).
