THIS WEEK ON DVD

It’s Tuesday so we must be heading off to the stores to get us some new DVD goodness….

I Haven’t Seen it and I Don’t Want to

The Burning Plain

Kim Basinger here seems to be in a movie where she’s going to cry for two hours.  It looks more dramatic than romantic about three women looking for love and dealing with all the stuff in their lives and relationships… I’m uninterested for so many reasons it’s unimaginable.

Post Grad

Here is a romantic comedy that actually could appeal to me for the single reason that this is exactly where I am in my life (unemployed after school and living at home) however the characters seem so formulaic and silly that it doesn’t even register as anything that I’m mildly curious about and romcoms are like the bread to my dinner plate, since I find them so easy to watch and enjoy.

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

It’s Tyler Perry… let’s move on.

Halloween II

Rob Zombie makes a sequel to his remake of the original Halloween film (that I’ve never seen).  It’s a horror/slasher flick that just looks so boring and will probably focus too much on gore rather than story or whatnot.

Fame

I remember a time when I was mildly interested in this movie.  And then I remembered that the original wasn’t that great to begin with and it would probably put everything to a hip-hop beat and I would hate it for it’s High School Musical-ifying everything about it.  Yes they will dance and sing (and rap) but I don’t want to see this one.  Maybe by force, or Sunday boredom, but not anywhere near my first choice for late night viewing.

I Haven’t Seen it But I Want To

Departures

Here’s a fun looking Japanese film about a musician who becomes a mortician after his family ends up in some fiscal trouble.  It looks like a movie about someone discovering what he was meant to do, even though it’s something he ended up doing due to his situation rather than what he wanted to do.

Big Fan

Patton Oswalt is a die hard NY Giants fan.  After he meets his favourite player (which he probably stalked to meet) and that player beats the crap out of him, he and his family seem to have a huge falling about how to approach this situation since Patton’s character doesn’t want to charge the player with assault because it would hurt his team.  I’m a huge sports fan, and even though I wouldn’t even be thinking twice about what I would do in this situation, I’m quite interested in seeing this level of fandom on display since I’ve always heard about these kinds of fans that go above and beyond to show their dedication the team that borders on psychotic.

Check these Out (i.e. Rent)

The Simpsons (20th Season)

I haven’t watched The Simpsons on TV for a very long time, but I tend to check it out from time to time and it’s impressive enough that they’ve been going for 20 years but I’m sure it’s a safe bet to call this a rental because everyone knows exactly what you’re getting when you sit down to watch The Simpsons.  I still love the movie they made a couple years back and I hope they make more like that.

In The Loop

Here is one of the in your face funny political satires you will find anywhere.  After showcasing some of the dumbest politicians that you could imagine, we have Malcom Tucker one of the best characters all year.  I will be quoting this movie for the rest of my life and I need to watch it another 20 times this week so that I can put it to memory.  The movie is not a difficult watch you just need to pay attention and some people (myself included) will need multiple viewings to get the big joke.  It is a rental rather than a buy for this reason… some people won’t get it, but for those who do you will need to take a breather every few minutes just to stay from going unconscious from lack of oxygen from all the laughter this movie will generate.

Buy These Now

Moon

A smart science fiction thriller that you will love with all the plot and mystery involved in every thought of it.  Sam Rockwell needs an Oscar nomination for this role and I can’t recommend this movie enough to you all to see if you still haven’t.

The Hurt Locker

If you still haven’t seen this movie shame on you.  It is a fantastic showing of a character who is made for war.  Jeremy Renner is my pick for best lead actor this year and I don’t know who wouldn’t agree with me on that.  The shear intensity of the film from scene to scene is eye catching and engaging.  This is the war film of our generation, like how Apocalypse Now was the war film of the last generation.

The Brothers Bloom

The gentlemen thieves are back. The Brothers Bloom know how to put on a show for you as they make you happy to hand over your money and make them into the story of how you had the greatest time on the run from the Russian mafia in Serbia or something.  I love this movie from top to bottom and I feel it is almost my duty to personally introduce as many people as possible to this movie.  I already have it on DVD (bought it from a rental store) and I can’t wait to upgrade it to a BluRay.

Here are some movies being rereleased on BluRay for HD fans

Here is the thing.  I’m not ‘recommending’ these movies.  I’m just letting the already fans of the new generation of home theatre and the movies about to be mentioned.  Personally all of these movies are either buys or rentals because they are all either movies that have a reputation to go along with them but I may not have seen all of them.  So this week on BluRay is:

Cliffhanger

The Last Action Hero

8 1/2 (Criterion Collection)

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.
