This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Way late on commenting here but on the classic-choices, one thing to remember is the context of why people talk about the and the influence of the film.

I watched High Noon a while back and had a similar reaction (read: Wha?) but it turns out it was actually not so much about just being a western but commentary on inaction of the time (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044706/trivia).

With Citizen Kane, it's really not the plot or story that is what people talk about, but the innovations in filmmaking techniques (deep focus, shooting from extremely low angles) which now is old news, but it was new then (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen_kane).

I see a lot of classics sight unseen and without research, but sometimes after then fact have to dig a bit to see what the fuss is about.
