Another week, another series of films I’m happy to say (for the most part) I made the time to sit through. It’s been a rough week for me, work-wise, with a lot of hefty days. I even got through some very difficult podcasting nights last week (look for the fruits of that labour this coming week). I’ve started my personal marathon moments for Charlie Chaplin as well as Robert Bresson (two people associated with film that before this week I’d never seen a film by them) and if the rest of their films can be as half as good as these films I started out with I’ll be having some new favourite movies to talk about when someone asks me what my favourite films are.
FIRST TIME VIEWS
CITY LIGHTS (1931) – Silent cinema’s never been so funny and great as this film.
A MAN ESCAPED (1956) – There’re certain films from the 50s which focus so keenly on a single goal as methodically as this one does, and it’s great.
CHRONICLE (2012) – not as bad as I was expecting, pretty fun teen with superpowers movie.
THE SWELL SEASON (2011) – Sadly this is a case of a rock documentary that tries to follow a band and not say much other than play some songs which I love, but I prefer my mp3 player for that job.
