WALL-E [MOVIE REVIEW]

In the distant future the world becomes too polluted to maintain life. So all of the humans are shipped off into space while we leave robots to clean up our mess. After years have passed all those robots have shut down, excepting one little Wall-E (Ben Burtt) robot. The most interesting thing about this robot is it is interested, and grown a personality. One day while he is out doing his work a spaceship lands to drop off Eve (Elissa Knight). Wall-E immediately falls in love. The film follows the love story as Wall-E chases Eve around and tries to make a connection.

This movie has been on my radar for a very long time now (almost as long as “The Dark Knight”). I can not show any real disappointment in the movie. What I have to say is that there are so many good things with this film that barely has a script. Ninety percent of the script is just “Wall-E” and “Eve” making robot noises, but at the same time even though the never really say complete sentences for us to understand you never not know exactly whats being said, thought, felt or done. This movie makes me want to go digging and find my old copy of “Short Circuit”. I don’t know how Pixar does it every time, and they keep on making all these great movies.

Andrew Stanton [director of “Finding Nemo” (2003)] wrote and directed this feature film. And it is astoundingly beautiful, brilliant and possibly the best movie thus far this summer. I’m listening to the soundtrack to the movie as I’m typing the review, and I can’t stop but remembering all the scenes and smile at every song and sound effect.

Yes, the characters are one million percent CUTE. And I say that with keeping my masculinity intact. I don’t think there is a person out there who can feel any different about these guys. Watching a movie like this melts even the Grinch’s heart.

This movie has everything: great visuals, great story, and great direction. It’s an adventure, love, kids, action, and whatever else there can be in a great movie that transcends genre. When you watch this movie you can’t help but realize how little you really need to do dialogue-wise to make a story seem full, and make your characters tell a tale that is twice as good as some of the most verbose screenplays.

The soundtrack is top notch, has maybe three actual songs, and the rest are some amazing orchestral conducted pieces by Thomas Newman (also composed music for “Cinderella Man” (2005), “Finding Nemo” (2003), and “American Beauty” (1999)).

But driving this film forward has to be how simply they present this story to us with basically no dialogue and the heart warming values of the characters that are given to us.

So overall this movie is a must see [I’m thinking of going to see it again]. Wall-E will be a well remembered character for years to come, and is a great addition to the Pixar clan. Andrew Stanton definitely has almost beat Brad Bird for my favourite Pixar director and I cannot wait to see what he is doing next.

IMDB says 9.3/10

Rotten Tomatoes says 96%

I say 9.0/10

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

  2. Damion

    1. Visually Impressive
    2. They were able to tell a "story" with the two main characters saying wall-e & eve for 90% of the movie
    HOWEVER
I found the movie pretty dull, so did my little cousins.

  3. Tucker

    Visually Impressive.

Only a TRUE moron, a child or an immature overtly cynical person (who pretends to be stoic) would not be able to look beyond the scant dialogue of the film to observe the mastery of physical comedy going on.

Though the story behind it was ostensibly basic, I really liked it. And don't forget people it's from disney so lighten up. It's supposed to be fun.

    8.5/10
    Good Job Disney!

people made fun of me at work cuz I said I nearly cried a few times. My eyes were welling up with tears. and it shows me how immature, insensitive, and ignorant those people are… i mean seriously. how can someone watch this film and leave thinking it was "dumb."

this is the world we live in…

ok, so i finally got around to watching it last week and i have to admit, i really really enjoyed it, i thought all the character designs were impressive if not downright funny, and all the voices and physical interactions were indeed quite funny, put that with a solid storyline with an underlying meaning about caring for our planet and u'll have a great movie, which i for one really enjoyed.
