TOP 5 KIDNAP MOVIES

So you must be wondering what the hell a ‘Kidnap Movie’ is. Basically in keeping with my feature review to come later in the week [Taken] the whole reason that Liam Neeson is going to go on this rampant kick-ass spree is because his daughter is kidnapped. So I classify a ‘Kidnap Movie’ as a film that if a character were not kidnapped basically the whole movie would have no meaning and probably wouldn’t have happened.

So here we go:

FIVE

Oldboy [2003] is a Korean film about Dae-su Oh’s fight for revenge after he was kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years without reason. This movie blew me away when I saw it about five years ago. The direction and style of action that made me realize that I was missing out on these amazing visual films [damn you Hollywood for making me see Michael Bay shit]. And even though this is a movie that I haven’t watched more than once, the ending will blow you away when you see it as it did me.

FOUR

The Princess Bride [1987] is one of my favourite movies from my childhood. Buttercup is kidnapped by some mercenaries and The Man in Black has come to the rescue. This film is just great comedic fantasy. Rob Reiner directed makes sure this movie is great fun for the entire family. I still watch this movie up to today, it lives on forever.

THREE

Big Trouble in Little China [1986] is what you get when a trucker decides to help his friend rescue his wife to be from the mystical lord who has been living in China Town. This movie is so silly and enjoyable that you can watch this basically whenever you’re feeling down. Once again another movie that doesn’t take itself serious and reminds me how much I love lame 80s films.  Also, if you’re like me and don’t know Kim Cattrall for much else other than her role in Sex in the City, here she is before she was complete slut.

TWO

Fargo [1996] is one of my favourite movies by the Coen Brothers.  Here we have a Mid-West town where a struggling auto-salesman who decides the only way to get back on top is to arrange for his wife to be kidnapped and then he will make his rich father-in-law pay the ransom and then he will get a cut.  This movie is amazing dark humour.  This is actually my favourite style of movie when it comes to Coen Brothers’ movies.  Most people like them for their more silly movies like The Hudsucker Proxy and The Big Lebowski, but I rather their dark more serious films, like this and No Country for Old Men.

ONE

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade [1989] is one of the most fun Indiana Jones film for me mainly because of how we see Indy being treated like a child by his father Dr. Henry Jones.  The whole reason this movie happened is because Dr. Henry Jones is captured, and Indy has to come to save him.  Then he gets brought into this adventure to find the Holy Grail.  Spielberg wins again, he may have disappointed me with the most recent chapter of the Indy story, but I was happy because it gave me an excuse to re-watch all these movies and I love The Last Crusade.

So I’ve given you my list.  As usual I’d like to get your vote in the poll.  If you think I missed something please leave it in the comments.

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.
