STEP BROTHERS [MOVIE REVIEW]

Dr. Robert Doback [Richard Jenkins] and Nancy Huff [Mary Steenburgen] get married. This now makes Dale [John C. Reilly] and Brennan [Will Ferrell] step-brothers. They are both 40 years old, and still living at home and completely supported by their parents.

Now, I didn’t have very high hopes for this movie. Until of course I twittered that I was going, and my friend [Steph Novakov] replied to me – on a certain social networking website that they are going to make a movie about and I will not mention here directly – and told me it was really good dumb fun. Now that I had somewhere to place my expectations I was ready.

This movie is hilarious. It makes me sad that approximately 15 people attended the showing. After around ten minutes of laughter that filled the big theatre, six ushers came in and watched the whole movie with us. This is laugh-out-loud funny through and through. I was doubtful, because not only did this movie seem not good, but it also seemed like it wanted to just do the “FUCK” joke too much. Meaning that I thought from the trailers – especially the redband – it was going to be overly vulgar just for the case of being vulgar. I must say that this movie is supremely vulgar, and it is second movie produced by Judd Apatow that you will see testicles [the first being Forgetting Sarah Marshall], but it all works perfectly.

This movie is really all about how far they take it. John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell play 40-year-olds who act like 8-year-olds. And they even get beat-up by a group of 8-year-olds in the movie. Now, you take a lot of logical discrepancies since it’s a comedy and it wouldn’t be funny if it wasn’t completely illogical. A lot of the jokes were done for the shock value, but still makes you laugh in a way that makes you think about Eddie Murphy talking about Cosby and Richard Pryor [coke and a smile].

Overall this is a movie that you should see. It is an enjoyable movie that I love right now. But, for some reason when I left the cinema I got the feeling that this will be one of those movies that will only get worse for me everytime I watch it, which is the opposite to their last movie [Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby] which I loved more and more with every viewing. But still check it out on DVD if you can’t make it out to the cinema.

IMDB says 7.0/10

Rotten Tomatoes says 53%

I say 8.0/10

This is my blog. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog, I am useless. I must fire my blog true. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my blog and myself are defenders of my mind, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.
