Armond White’s Review of Inception

Do you listen to TUMP? Did you listen to our episode on Inception? If you do and if you did, you would know that every week we talk about the newly released trailers and this week we spoke about Drive Angry and Sucker Punch. What you wouldn’t know, however, is what trailers we didn’t talk about.

Every week, I compile all the new trailers (that I see, at least) into one really long Google Wave and using some embedded tools we vote on which ones we will talk about on the next podcast. I’ve opened up that wave to the public so you can see exactly which trailers we voted on that week and what we all thought about it. You can see it either embedded on Mashed Bits or straight from the source.

My Pick of the Week: The Silence

Truthfully, there weren’t very many great trailers that came out this week. The trailer for Sucker Punch was very pretty and that was about it in terms of the memorable mainstream for the week. Still, I can say that the trailer for The Silence is a solid release. The movie seems to follow a community that has seen one of its children murdered and delves deeper into its emotional response and attempts to cope when the one develops into a series of murders (two counts as a series, right?). As the narration in the trailer goes, “All that remains is silence.” Neat title tie-in, but the trailer goes a bit further with the actors appearing on screen never actually speaking but always with ominous looks etched on their faces.   This, Baran bo Odar‘s first feature-length film, looks to deliver some good thrills if it delivers on this trailer’s promises.

This week we’re joined by a friend of ours, John, as we discuss the idea of going in each others minds and trying to make each other seem more awesome than we think as we review Inception.

My Pick of the Week: Louis

This trailer was a bit overlong but was equally fun most of the way through. It’s clearly about Louis Armstrong (or maybe about a boy who wants to be just like him). I don’t really know his story, but the trailer seems ridiculous enough that I would venture a guess and say that the story is, if not fictionalized, grossly over-exaggerated. Judge Perry (thank you IMDb), played by Jackie Earle Haley, looks the part of the over-emotive, comedically-portrayed villain as it is played in the silent films of old (read: in what silent films look like in all the modern films I’ve ever watched). The truth is, this movie looks like it could be a waste of time but it also teases the sort of childish adventure and mindless fun that I love to see in movies. So, mark me down as up for some Louis.

This week Damion, Douglas and I are trying to get to the bottom of this murder/suicide case that’s happened as we review Robert Altman‘s The Long Goodbye.
