FINALLY!!! Finally a week where I want to go to the theatre. So here’s a week of sweet:

Horrible Bosses

Directed by: Seth Gordon

Written by: Michael Markowitz & John Francis Daley

Starring: Jason Bateman, Jason Sudekis, Charlie Day, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston & Jamie Foxx

Synopsis: Three friends conspire to murder their awful bosses when they realize they are standing in the way of their happiness.

My Thought: It looks funny. I’ve been reading a few mixed reviews though and I’m not sure whether I should be banking it on how much I love Charlie Day. I mean I’m also looking forward to Colin Farrell as what seems like a truly horrible boss, but the truth of the matter is that I feel that this may turn out to be the Hall Pass of the summer.

Might be worth a Saturday afternoon, but it’ll all be dependent on my mood on the day and such.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part II

Directed by: David Yates

Written by: Steve Kloves & J.K. Rowling

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson & Rupert Grint

Synopsis: The final chapter begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue their quest of finding and destroying the Dark Lord’s three remaining Horcruxes, the magical items responsible for his immortality. But as the mystical Deathly Hallows are uncovered, and Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again.

My Thoughts? Why am I thinking? This is a must see film. While I wanted to get to see the movie in 3D I doubt that’s going to happen. I’ve invested a decade of fandom into this franchise, finally I’m going to get the proverbial “money shot” with the final battle between Voldermort and Harry. I can’t wait to hear all the “the books are better” bitchings after the final movie is out. I haven’t read the books, but I feel like this will be the final straw for a lot of the die hard bookworms out there.

So it’s another week which means finally a chance for me to hope for something good to come to my theatre, however that hope is just there to be immediately shot down by today’s releases. Check out what’s new below:

Zookeeper

Directed by: Frank Coraci

Written by: Nick Bakay & Rock Reuben

Starring: Kevin James, Rosario Dawson & Leslie Bibb

Synopsis: A group of zoo animals decide to break their code of silence in order to help their lovable zookeeper (Kevin James) find love — without opting to leave his current job for something more illustrious. woman

My Thoughts: These movies were not made for me, and regardless of what I think the box office will remain the same. Those of you actually reading this don’t care about this movie either and share my disdain for these brand of children films with talking animals and a star actor just being stupidly ridiculous for the sake of making all the six-year-olds in the room laughing, which isn’t a bad thing but it definitely just has it’s place and it’s not in my peripheral vision.

Monte Carlo

Directed by: Thomas Bezucha

Written by: Thomas Bezucha & April Blair

Starring: Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester & Katie Cassidy

Synopsis: A young woman, her uptight step sister and her best friend use their savings for a long anticipated dream trip to Paris, which turns out to be a big disappointment. When they decide to take a break from their lousy tour and duck into the lobby of a luxury hotel, one of them is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress. Before they get the chance to reveal their true identities they are wrapped up in misadventures during a vacation to Monte Carlo instead.

My Thoughts: Did you enjoy The Parent Trap? Guess what, here it is again just set in Monte Carlo. Another new Disney actress is “breaking out” as it would be with a non Disney film that’s made for the Disney pre-teen audience. It’ll be cute, they’ll mention how hot one thing looks, they’ll see the real side of Paris and then not like it, then get to be in the rich side of Paris and love it. Then eventually learn that it wasn’t what they hoped for, and just want to be by themselves on their own in the real Paris that they ran away from. Blah Blah Blah. It’s boring and like Zookeeper doesn’t need my help in getting an audience.

It’s a week of movies that a lot people want to see. Check it out below:

Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon 3D

Directed by: Michael Bay

Written by: Ehren Kruger

Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley & Tyrese Gibson

Synopsis: The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets

My Thoughts: The first movie was not bad when I saw it at first. The second movie was atrocious, and was so bad that it sullied the first in my eyes completely. What has this movie done to change this? Oh they added 3D and fired Megan Fox. So they added goodness (i.e. no more Fox) and added badness (i.e. in 3D for cheap gimmick). I think I’m going to pass. The movie will probably not make any sense anyways and I just can’t be bothered to let my brain hurt that much as I hear everyone cheering at every dumb explosion on screen.

I’ll watch it when it hits DVD and just laugh at it in the privacy of my home and hope somehow – by the powers of grayskull – the movie can surprise me then.

Bad Teacher

Directed by: Jake Kasdan

Written by: Gene Stupnitsky & Lee Eisenberg

Starring: Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel & Justin Timberlake

Synopsis: A comedy centered around a foul-mouthed, junior high teacher who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague — a move that pits her against a well-loved teacher.

My Thoughts: Diaz looks bad in this movie. She just looks like she forcing herself to be funny like this. She can be funny, but she’s usually the “dumb blonde” funny where she does something and we all laugh going “ohh you silly girl!!!” here it just looks wrong. While I think Timberlake and Segel look great, I just can’t see myself paying full fee for this movie.

It’s a day late, but with all the best intentions, check out what’s in theatres this week:

Green Lantern (3D)

Directed by: Martin Campbell

Written by: Greg Berlanti & Michael Green

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively & Peter Sarsgaard

Synopsis: A test pilot is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

My Thoughts: This movie barely made my Fifteen Most Anticipated Films of the Summer list and now that I look back and am seeing some reviews for certain films I’m disappointed that this movie is even in the list. While I’m not against silly action movies I just feel that this movie may just not deliver at all and I think I’m going to just wait for this movie to hit Blu Ray and give it a rental when I can. Unemployment makes me very selective with my theatre choices.

Cars 2 (3D)

Directed by: John Lasseter & Brad Lewis

Written by: Ben Queen & John Lasseter

Starring: Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy & Michael Caine

Synopsis: Star race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.

My Thoughts: So the worst Pixar movie ever made is now going to be a spy movie spoof. “I’m sure that’s a great idea!” This movie looks ridiculously worse than the first, and that’s saying something. I’m one of the biggest Pixar enthusiasts that you’ll find, but when it comes to this property I honestly can’t understand why they would ever want to make a sequel, and even worse when I hear that they’re looking to do a spinoff (pun probably intended) film callled Planes, this is just the road that I hoped Pixar would never travel and I’m sad to see. Let’s just hope that Monsters Inc. 2 turns out great whenever that’s released. Dreamworks this is your year to grab the Ocsar, don’t waste it.

It’s another week so another chance to run into the cool confines of the air conditioned cinema to hide from the heat outside. Here’s what you have to subject yourself to in order for that privilege:

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Directed by: Mark Waters

Written by: Sean Anders & John Morris

Starring: Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino & Angela Lansbury

Synopsis: The life of a businessman begins to change after he inherits six penguins, and as he transforms his apartment into a winter wonderland, his professional side starts to unravel.

My Thoughts: It looks just like a lot of Carrey projects that he does every few years to keep himself liquid. He pull out all his usual facial gags and doing everything including sleeping with penguins. It’s made for little children and I’m sure they’ll find it funny, since when I was that age I found that kind of stuff funny, which is what it’s there for and no reason in making it look or sound like anything else.

Go For It

Directed by: Carmen Marron

Written by: Carmen Marron

Starring: Aimee Garcia, Al Bandiero & Jossaro Jinaro

Synopsis: Carmen is a good student with a bad attitude who lives for dancing in the underground clubs of Chicago. She yearns to be ‘somebody’ but is afraid to believe in herself. Her immigrant Mexican, working-class parents want her to stay in school and get an education, so she attends junior college while working at a grocery store. Carmen’s professor catches her performing one day in the neighborhood and challenges her to audition to a formal dance school in California. She gets into a fight with her chaotic family and runs away to her best friend Gina’s place only to find out Gina’s been getting beat up by her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Carmen’s boyfriend, Jared wants her to commit and move in with him. Pulled apart in every direction, her dream of dancing fades. Can Carmen overcome her fears and take the biggest chance of her life, or will she succumb to her self-doubt?

My Thoughts: Is this why I don’t have any Green Lantern this week? DAMMIT! The way I see this is if you like So You Think I Can Dance or Dancing with the Stars, then you probably are the target audience for this movie and I don’t really talk to you that much. So go, enjoy and then let me know if the Green Lantern trailer is finally coming out next week.

So this one had to wait till the end of the week because there was no film released mid-week, like normal, but I’m happy to say that my #2 most anticipated film of the 2011 summer has been released today:

Super 8

Directed by: J. J. Abrams

Written by: J. J. Abrams

Starring: Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka & Kyle Chandler

Synopsis: In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

My Thoughts: I love Abrams‘ work. He’s done Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III and he produced LOST so I can’t wait to see what he does when he tackles the kind of movie which just seems to reek of nostalgia in a good way. We’ve all grown up on films like this, E. T. and The Goonies (even if I didn’t like The Goonies), and I just feel like this may be just made for people who’re in on those references and able to relate to.

It’s another week and Summer is in full force at this point in my mind so here’s what’s at my cinema as of today:

X-Men: First Class

Directed by: Matthew Vaughn

Written by: Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz

Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones & Kevin Bacon

Synopsis: Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-MEN.

My Thoughts: Do you still want to know? I love Matthew Vaughn. Stardust and Kick-Ass are two of my favourite genre films and he’s bringing that great style to a franchise that needs a new look. I can’t wait to see how this acting talent heavy period piece where mutants are blowing stuff up. I’m in, are you?

It happens to be one of the few weeks of the year where all the releases for the weekhave been pushed to Friday instead of the usual Wednesday release, which is why TWiC has moved to today this week. Anyways, enough with my blabbing, check out what’s in theatres today below:

The Hangover Part II

Directed by: Todd Phillips

Written by: Craig Mazin & Scot Armstrong

Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zack Galifanakis & Ken Jeong

Synopsis: Right after the bachelor party in Las Vegas, Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug jet to Thailand for Stu’s wedding. Stu’s plan for a subdued pre-wedding brunch, however, goes seriously awry.

My Thoughts: I liked the first, this movie looks like it’s the same exact thing just moved to Thailand (apparently pronounced “Thigh-land”). Deep down inside I’m waiting for this movie to disappoint me but at the same time I feel like I have to give it a chance. I mean how much worse can it get from Vegas? Do they make Stu marry a tranny this time? Who knows.

Kung Fu Panda 2

Directed by: Jennifer Yuh

Written by: Jonathan Aibel & Glenn Berger

Starring: Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Gary Oldman, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dustin Hoffman & David Cross

Synopsis: Po joins forces with a group of new kung-fu masters to take on an old enemy with a deadly new weapon.

My Thoughts: I wasn’t looking forward to the first film, then I reluctantly went and was blown away by it. I’m afraid that this film will suffer from no longer being able to surprise me. The sad part about it is that the trailer isn’t any more or less interesting than the promotions were for the first film. So this can go either way. However, one thing’s for sure, I’ll be there to find out which way it goes.

It’s another week, which means I have to consider the idea of leaving my impregnable fortress that is home and go to the theatre. Here’s what’s new at the cinema:

Priest 3D

Directed by: Scott Charles Stewart

Written by: Cory Goodman & Min-Woo Hyung

Starring: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban & Stephen Moyer

Synopsis: The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.

My Thoughts: I wasn’t sold on this movie at all. It reminds so much of last years waste of time, Legion, which is actually directed and starring the same exact people.

With that said though. Last week I went to go and see Thor and they played this very trailer in 3D and I was pretty interested. I thought the 3D looked pretty kick ass and I’m thinking about possibly seeing it just for the spectacular mess that is. Added to the fact that it’s summer and I love summer madness, so let’s see what happens.

Are you going to see Priest in the theatres?

It’s another week at the theatre so let’s see what’s worth seeing:

Jumping the Broom

Directed by: Salim Akil

Written by:Elizabeth Hunter & Arlene Gibbs

Starring: Paula Patton, Laz Alonso & Angela Bassett

Synopsis: Two very different families converge on Martha’s Vineyard one weekend for a wedding.

My Thoughts: I’m not watching this movie for the very same reason I don’t watch any of the Madea films, or why I didn’t watch Big Momma’s House 3; on top of everything else it just doesn’t look good, or for me. The film is going to be riddled with humour all tailor made for a section of America, that if I’m to analyze the humour, is either completely ignorant or out of touch with it’s world. I always ask the question as to whether a story has to black or white? Why can’t it be about people? And then I get this.

Thor

Directed by: Kenneth Branagh

Written by: Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins & Natalie Portman

Synopsis: The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

My Thoughts: It looks big, explosive and I hope that Hopkins gets to be really awesome all over this movie.

I honestly don’t have a lot of expectations for this movie, especially since it’s another films that’s been converted to 3D in post-production rather than being shot in 3D. I keep going to these movies hoping that they’re going to get the conversion right, but it seems that no matter which team does it the film always comes out horribly when it’s done on a live action movie.
