DVD Pick of the Week – The Shinjuku Incident

Nick’s (Jackie Chan) fiancé left China for Japan to try and make a life for herself.  After a while and a lack of correspondence Nick decides to take the boat and try to enter Japan illegally from China.  While in Japan he tries to find a way to survive.  Eventually he discovers that the only way for an illegal immigrant, especially one who is Chinese, to make any money is by doing work that circumvents the law.  So Nick begins his own illegal operations out of Shinjuku to try and create a life for himself in Japan. Asian Weekly: Ryu Ga Gotoku Movie Review

I will try and make this a weekly item, where I review an Asian film, old or new, live-action or animated. And this week we get to jump things off with Ryu Ga Gotoku (Like A Dragon)

Kazuma Kiryu(Kazuki Kitamaru) has been released from prison after ten years inside. He was a part of the local Yakuza and now wishes to lead a peaceful life. He befriends this young girl Haruka(Natsuo Tomita) who wishes to find her mother. Goro Majima(Goro Kishitani) a general for the Yakuza wishes to settle a fight he has with Kiryu before he was incarcerated, and is searching the streets for him. Let the fight begin…

CJ7 Movie Review

Ti (Stephen Chow) is a hard working labourer who doesn’t have much. He is a single father to his only son Dicky (Jiao Xu), who he tries his best to support through private school and teach valuable lessons of how to live a proper dignified life. One day Ti returns home after a hard day of work and hands Dicky a green ball that he found at the dump, for him as a gift. This green ball, which Dicky names CJ7, turns out to be some alien dog type thing and the adventure begins. (more…)
