The Interlude: Strictly Ballroom (Cyndi Lauper)

This week I finally got around to watching Baz Luhrmann‘s first film, Strictly Ballroom, and I loved it. It’s cheesy and ridiculous dance movie awesome. One of my favourite parts of the movie is when Fran and Scott first start dancing together and Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time starts playing and everything the film cuts away from them dancing to a completely other part of the story the song stops but eventually the movie comes back to them dancing and Fran learning more and more and the song keeps coming back as if Luhrmann made a contract with Lauper’s agent and had to play the whole song in the movie.     That remains my favorite film by Baz Luhrmann. I loved that scene because of the way the chemistry between Fran and Scott was developing and in the background. There’s Scott’s father doing his steps. I think it’s an amazing film and I hope Luhrmann would do something simpler after his adaptation of “The Great Gatsby”.

    Well Moulin Rouge is my favourite and I doubt that’ll change for a while, I do need to revisit his Romeo + Juliet. But ye so much of this movie is awesome, loved the dancing and the hilarity.
