Synopsis: In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.

Trailer:

My Thoughts? Is it directed by the man who gave me such classics such as: True Lies, Terminator and Aliens??? What more do you want me to say?  This is what might be the most expensive film made to date.  James Cameron has decided to create the film which will be the make or break film for Digital 3D I think.  For all those people who have been on the fence about the idea of films in 3D will go and see this movie and finally make up their mind based on this movie I think.  It is the summer blockbuster that we’re getting for Christmas.

Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are

Directed by: Spike Jonze

Written by: Spike Jonze & Dave Eggers

Starring: Max Records, Catherine Keener, Mark Ruffalo, James Gandolfini & Paul Dano

Synopsis: An adolescent named Max has an active imagination, and he will throw fits if others don’t go along with what he wants. Max, following an incident with Claire (his sister) and her friends, and following a tantrum which he throws as a result of his Mother paying more attention to her boyfriend than to him – runs away from home. Wearing his wolf costume at the time, Max not only runs away physically, but runs toward a world in his imagination. This world, an ocean away, is inhabited by large wild beasts, including one named Carol who is much like Max himself in temperament. Instead of eating Max like they normally would with creatures of his type, the wild things befriend Max after he proclaims himself a king who can magically solve all their problems.

Trailer

My Thoughts? I love that that Spike Jonze never seems to do anything traditionally.  With his first movie (Being John Malkovich) we find out how crazy this guy can be as we see how he shows us things like John Cusack’s apartment to being in John Malkovich’s head and that makes me think how insane it can get now that we’re inside a child’s imagination.  This has been called “best film of the year” by a few critics and I can’t wait to see if they’re right.

Brothers

Brothers - Gylenhall

Directed by: Jim Sheridan

Written by: David Benioff & Susanne Bier

Starring: Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman & Clifton Collins Jr.

Synopsis: A young man comforts his older brother’s wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan.

Trailer:

My Thoughts? I saw this trailer a while back and even though it does fall into the category of being a bad trailer by seeming to give away way too much, it is great in that it totally got me pumped for this movie that I had never heard of.  This looks like a movie that will mesh together great Oscar worthy performances and a great dramatic story.

What do you plan on seeing this week?
