Coming Out This Week

You want to know what’s coming out this week??? Ohh alright I’ll tell you:
The Princess and the Frog

Directed by: Ron Clements & John Musker
Written by: Ron Clements
Starring: Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Keith David & Jennifer Cody
Synopsis: A fairy tale centered on a young girl named Princess Tiana who lives in New Orleans’ French Quarter during the Jazz Age.
Trailer:
My Thoughts? At first I wasn’t a fan of the idea, mainly because it seemed like Disney would be praying too much on the idea or making one of the classics into a story with just black characters. Also I’ve read about all of Disney’s long journey with all of their test screenings just to make sure that this movie is as inoffensive as possible. However, after I saw the latest trailer (which gave me more than the rehashed premise) and I saw that it was Disney returning to the powerhouse of great hand drawn animation with what might be some fun musical numbers (me loves a musical) that they were known for back in the 90s I was hooked.
Fantastic Mr. Fox

Directed by: Wes Anderson
Written by: Roald Dahl & Wes Anderson
Starring: George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Michael Gambon & Owen Wilson
Synopsis: It is the story of one Mr. Fox and his wild-ways of hen heckling, turkey taking and cider sipping, nocturnal, instinctive adventures. He has to put his wild days behind him and do what fathers do best: be responsible. He is too rebellious. He is too wild. He is going to try “just one more raid” on the three nastiest, meanest farmers that are Boggis, Bunce and Bean. It is a tale of crossing the line of family responsibilities and midnight adventure and the friendships and awakenings of this country life that is inhabited by Fantastic Mr. Fox and his friends.
Trailer:
My Thoughts? I’ve always been iffy with Wes Anderson’s films, but I remember being a huge fan of Roald Dahl’s books as a child and I can’t help but fall in love with the look of this movie. It looks like how stop-motion animation used to look when I was a child and it makes me feel all warm inside just to see the trailer. I have to see this movie just to see the now infamous ‘cussing’ scene in the movie with Bill Murray and George Clooney (which I will not spoil for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about).
Ninja Assassin

Directed by: James McTeigue
Written by: Matthew Sand & J. Michael Straczynski
Starring: Rain
Synopsis: Trained since childhood to be a lethal killer, Raizo has since turned his back on the Ozunu clan that raised him and now seeks revenge for their heartless murders. Teaming up with Europol investigator Mika, Raizo steadily butchers his enemies while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody reunion with his former master.
Trailer:
My Thoughts? I’m really hoping beyond all hope that this movie turns out to be the kick ass action film we all want it to be and all of my friends will claim it is even if they never end up watching it. The trailer definitely shows a lot of crazy plot that I may fault the movie for, but with the Wachowski’s teaming up with James McTeigue again (last time was for V for Vendetta) I hope I end up loving this movie as much as I did their last.
So what are you going to see this week?
