George Bailey [James Stewart] has always wanted to leave his home town and travel the world and be somebody, but throughout his life he’s always found an excuse not to go and to stay home and care to some business or another. One Christmas Eve he and his business partner find themselves $8000 short on their books and in desperate need of money. George in a moment of fear of incarceration and the evil Mr. Potter [Lionel Barrymore] finally gaining access to everything in the town he wishes for death and that he was never born. I decided to join a film review club called The 1001 Movies You Must See Club to help make me watch better movies. What they do is every month recommend four movies everyone should see and review on their various blogs. These films are taken from a book entitled 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. Now I know I’ve seen some of these films but not all of them. So enjoy as I revisit some and discover classics I probably would never see without this little nudge in the right direction.
Where do I start in this world that Paul Thomas Anderson has made for us? He takes us through the lives of about ten different people who are all interconnected, in some way or another, over the following 24 hours and all are in Los Angeles. (more…)

After being a performer for so long and being fed up with his hectic schedule Jim Hardy [Bing Crosby] decides to retire and live the rest of his life on a farm. After that fails to live up to his expectations he decides to turn it into a special kind of club, The Holiday Inn, where people can come on each public holiday and enjoy a special song and dance show he put on with all his guests. Michael Oher [Quinton Aaron] is an underprivileged youth from the ghettos of Memphis, Tennessee, with a dark unknown past. He is enrolled in a private school where he is seen but not heard until one cold night Leigh Tuohy [Sandra Bullock] decides to take him in for the night and keep him from being taken by the elements. Eventually she decides to take Michael in permanently and help him become a better student and eventually one of the best young left tackles on the football field in his high school league. (more…)
