Coming Out This Week
November 29th, 2009by Andrew Robinson

So this week I can see in theatres these films:
Armored

Directed by: Nimrod Antal
Written by: James V. Simpson
Starring: Matt Dillon, Jean Reno, Lawrence Fishburne & Columbus Short
Synopsis: A newbie guard for an armored truck company is coerced by his veteran coworkers to steal a truck containing $42 million. But a wrinkle in their supposedly foolproof plan divides the group, leading to a potentially deadly resolution.
Trailer:
My Thoughts: Here is what looks like one of those movies that comes out every year which has one of the stupidest stories and gets made only because of all of the stars attached to it. The trailer not only does it give away the entire plot of the film but it seems to also decide to spoil the biggest thing that I expected from the movie (the armoured truck v. armoured truck chase scene). I can’t find any reason why I would want to see this one but I must say now that the day has come I can see myself checking this one out maybe just to verify all of my worries about all the statistics we can see through the casting and the trailer.
Astro Boy

Directed by: David Bowers
Written By: Osuma Tezuka & Timothy Harris
Starring: Nicholas Cage, Kristen Bell, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlize Theron, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland & Nathan Lane
Synopsis: Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving man’s expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who had rejected him.
Trailer:
My Thoughts: Here is a movie that I’ve been looking forward to for a long while. I have an attachment to this property since I had to discuss it for a presentation on the history of anime and this being the first anime to be broadcast outside of Japan was a historical thing. It’s a children’s film and I have a deep seated feeling that it will fall into the category of children’s movie where it will pander to the children more than the adults who have grown up and are still fans of the property. I love fun animes and I can’t wait to see how much this movie matches my memories of the original anime.
What are you going to see this week?
