Coming Out This Week
November 8th, 2009by Andrew Robinson

This week in the theatre will be:
2012

Directed by: Roland Emmerich
Written by: Roland Emmerich & Harald Kloser
Starring: John Cusack, Chewitel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Thandi Newton, Oliver Platt, Woody Harrelson & Danny Glover
Synopsis: An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
Trailer:
My Thoughts: Roland Emmerich is I think security risk #1. People are all paranoid searching all the Arabs and Palestinians at the airports but I think this is the man you need to worry about. Whenever we start to see signs of the end of the world I can imagine Emmerich walking outside onto his front patio with a cold beer and he points up and says “ha I did that in (insert random Emmerich movie here)“. I actually don’t think this movie will be very good and with a runtime of over two and a half hours on IMDb makes me even more worried as to how much destruction porn Emmerich has fit into this movie. But in the end I’m going to see this because I think it will have a certain cinematic quality to it and there are only so many times you can see the world end and not laugh at it.
A Christmas Carol

Directed by: Robert Zemeckis
Written by: Charles Dickens & Robert Zemeckis
Starring: Jim Carrey
Synopsis: An animated retelling of Charles Dickens classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.
Trailer:
My Thoughts: Robert Zemeckis may have been ousted for his desire to try and utilize all the new fancy technologies when he The Polar Express (which to this day I have yet to watch) but we’re talking about the man who gave us Romancing the Stone , Back to the Future and Forest Gump. I have to watch this movie. It looks like it is going to look beautiful with the 3D that I already enjoy thoroughly. I also still think Jim Carrey is a great comedic actor and it seems it works even better when he gets to go completely zaney as a voice actor and the animators can tweak the facial acting in the animations to fit his zaney voices that are hilarious. And yes I know that this story has been told so many times that I think that children three years old are already tired of hearing it but it’s classic and ain’t no reason to mess with a good thing.
What are you going to go watch this week?
