Rebecca Hall and Jon Hamm cast in Affleck’s ‘The Town’
July 30th, 2009by Andrew Robinson

Ben Affleck [also directed Gone Baby Gone] will be directing his second feature length film, The Town, which is based on the novel “Prince of Thieves” written by Chuck Hogan. The book is about “a dashing Boston bank robber who falls in love with a bank teller while eluding the unwanted attentions of the FBI.”
Affleck will be playing the lead role in the film with Jon Hamm [also stars in the hit TV show Mad Men] playing the agent in charge of the investigation for Ben Affleck’s character. Rebecca Hall [also stars in Vicky Cristina Barcelona] will be playing the role of the bank teller who is between the two men.
The book is listed as a thriller and I can see this working since Affleck used a lot of thriller type elements in his directorial debut Gone Baby Gone a couple years ago and I loved that movie. Jon Hamm is an amazing actor and I love him in Mad Men and I can’t wait to see him in a major role in feature films, even though I doubt this role will allow him to branch out into a whole new character. Don Draper [the character who Jon Hamm plays in Mad Men] is pretty much just like a stereotypical 30s FBI agent kind of character. Rebecca Hall is a new face to me, and even though I loved her in Vicky Cristina Barcelona as I look down her short IMDB list I see she was also in Frost/Nixon and The Prestige and I didn’t even notice her – which is not a good thing.
In the end I’m very hopeful for this project and look forward to another film that will put a positive in the Ben Affleck arguement.
What are your hopes for this film?
