Hotel for Dogs

Plot Synopsis: When their new guardians forbid 16-year old Andi (Emma Roberts) and her younger brother, Bruce (Jake T. Austin) to have a pet, Andi has to use her quick wit to help find a new home for their dog, Friday. The resourceful kids stumble upon an abandoned hotel and using Bruce’s talents as a mechanical genius, transform it into a magical dog-paradise for Friday—and eventually for all Friday’s friends. When barking dogs make the neighbors suspicious, Andi and Bruce use every invention they have to avoid anyone discovering “who let the dogs in.”

Trailer:

Rating: PG [brief mild thematic elements, language and some crude humour]

My Expectations: This movie is the kind of film that would go straight to DVD, or be aired on the Disney Channel. Unless you have a four-year-old child or fell in love with High School Musical then this movie is not for you and it definitely not for me. Nowadays most movies that I don’t want to see in theatre I usually try to watch it when it hits DVD, but here is one where I will NEVER see it unless possibly my amazing baby cousin wants to watch it.

Underworld : The Rise of the Lycans

Plot Synopsis: A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.

Trailer:

Rating: R [bloody violence and some sexuality]

My Expectations: I remember watching the first Underworld movie when that came out in 2003 expecting a fun action packed movie. However, it totally failed as even that. I refused to watch the sequel that came out three years after and I also refuse to go see this third installment. This movie I’ll probably see when it hits DVD and I’ll rent it or something.

My Recommendations: So this week I say don’t go to the theatre, go check out Vicky Cristina Barcelona and RockNRolla which comes out on DVD on January 27th. I love both of those films and if you haven’t seen them yet here is your chance.

  1. Shannon the Movie Moxie Says:

Wow, you didn’t like the first Underworld? I thought it was loads of fun (but the second one really didn’t work). I’m actually looking forward to the 3rd/prequel. Looks better than the dogs!

  2. Andrew Robinson Says:

ye I agree in comparison I’m first in line for Underworld 3, but just because the movie looks better than utter crap doesn’t make it cinematic genius.
