I fell behind in the last week or so. I forgot to post last week’s News Roundup, sorry about that, but it’s back and here we go.

I fell behind in the last week or so. I forgot to post last week’s News Roundup, sorry about that, but it’s back and here we go.

Jensen Ames [Jason Statham] has been framed for the murder of his wife and has been incarcerated in Hennessey’s [Joan Allen] prison. Hennessy is the creator of the most popular sporting event ever, The Death Race. The Death Race is where prisoners race for their freedom and there are no rules, only cross the line alive first.

Toorop [Vin Diesel] is a retired mercenary who is recruited to do a smuggling job. He is brought in by Gorsky [Gérard Depardieu] to do this job. Toorop must take Aurora [Mélanie Thierry] from Russia to America, along with her ‘chaperon’ Sister Rebeka [Michelle Yeoh], in this post-apocalyptic world.

So I put up my personal Top 5 List [Drivers]. Do you agree or not? Vote on your favourite driver and let’s see if the masses agrees with the gman.

So here is my new Wednesday feature article, hope to be pumping these out every week from here on out. I will be doing a Top 5 list, in relation to the week’s upcoming feature review. This week’s feature review will be Paul W. S. Anderson’s “Death Race” starring Jason Statham. So here I am revealing my top 5 characters who sit behind the wheel.

Anthony [Luke Wilson] has just left a mental hospital and met back up with his friend and colleague, Dignan [Owen Wilson]. Dignan has plans for the two of them to be big time burglars. After pulling off a small heist they go into hiding out in the middle of nowhere and stay in a motel. Anthony falls in love with a housekeeper from Parguay who works at the motel, Inez [Lumi Cavazos].

Weeds is a series created by Jenji Kohan that is centered around the character of Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), a widow from the suburbs of Agrestic in Los Angeles California. Nancy’s husband Judah died tragically from a heart attack which left her to take care of her two sons Silas and Shane. Nancy decides to earn her living by selling weed in the suburbs of Agrestic. Heylia James (Tonye Patano) and Conrad Shepard (Romany Malco) are her weed suppliers.

I was looking forward to this movie. Not with unfounded high expectations, but just as a fun light hearted comedy with Rainn Wilson being a ridiculous character. However, I will not be reviewing the film. For the reason that I spent approximately 20-30 minutes of the play time complaining about the product.

This film is the animated adaptation of a graphic novel by the same name. It is an autobiographical film [and novel] about a young Iranian girl, Marjane Satrapi (Chiara Matroianni), growing up during the revolution. She is a very open minded girl who believes in freedom, in a country that doesn’t offer it to women. She has to be sent away to France so that she will not be arrested over some argument with an official. (more…)

So hopefully every week, or everyother week I will highlight a film from the 90s that I have seen for the first time. Recently I’ve realised there are so many, it’s time I get around to seeing them. I’d like to consider my “Se7en” review last week a part of this, I just never thought of making it a weekly thing at that point. May even get into the 80s one of these days. Anyways we will start this off with Martin Scorsese’s remake of the 60s classic “Cape Fear”.
Max Cady (Robert De Niro) has been released from prison after serving a fourteen year sentence, and is stalking his former defense attorney, Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte). After fourteen years of prison Max Cady has improved himself, he has brought himself out of ignorance and is now literate and as knowledgeable as any lawyer about the laws of society. He uses this to stalk his target in such a way that he is not prosecutable by any court, and at the same time making sure to drive a deep sense of fear into Sam and his family. (more…)
